effects of parenting
Do you find it odd when people say their parents are their best friends?

I was speaking with some friends today and we were saying how we find it odd when kids or anyone for that matter says that their parents are their best friends. Some people go on saying that they can tell their mom or dad anything and talk to them about everything.

I find this kind of odd just because I never had that “best friend” relationship with my parents and I probably never will. In my opinion, parents should be an authority figure not a son or daughters best friend.

How does everyone else feel? How does it effect parenting and the relationship between kids and their parents?

Best friends? Possibly, perhaps how much TV that children watch these day seems to have controlled children that parents are never your best friends. They are wrong but they are right.

I would only in the slightest find it a bit odd, but me and my mum are best friends! I can talk to my mum about anything. She’s supportive and if you think about it…if you’re parents were you best friends….they’d be the only best friends that loved you!
